Ever played hide and seek?
Fun as a kid…
Absolute nightmare if you’re a business owner.
Funny how things change when you grow up, isn’t it?
Play with your imaginary friends as a kid… and you’re called creative.
Play with your imaginary friends as an adult… and suddenly you’re schizophrenic.
Anyway…right now, 91% of websites are completely invisible to Google. That means no rankings, no traffic, no leads—just a digital ghost town.
And here’s the thing: SEO is NOT optional anymore.
If you want people to find you, trust you, and buy from you, you need to do more than just throw up a website and hope for the best.
So, let’s make sure this is a game of hide and seek you WIN.
Keywords Are Your Compass
Ever tried navigating without a map? That’s the position you’re leaving your customers in if you’re not using the right keywords in your content.
Your audience is already searching for what you offer—your job is to figure out what they’re typing into Google, so they find YOUR offer specifically, and not your competitors’.
To help with this, you can use tools like Google’s Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or Ubersuggest to find what people in your industry are searching for.
Quality Content Is Your Fuel
Although keywords are absolutely necessary, you need to be careful not to engage in what’s known as “keyword stuffing”.
That’s when you just shove your keywords into every inglenook and cranny on your website without much thought. (I know it’s normally ‘nook and cranny’, but I just learned the word ‘inglenook’ and really wanted to use it).
In fact, Google hates keyword stuffing, and only rewards real expertise—content that actually helps people, answers questions, and keeps visitors engaged.
So if you’re trying to game the system with junk content? Forget it.
Instead, focus on creating content that people WANT to read. The better your content, the longer people stay on your site. And the longer they stay, the more Google sees your site as valuable.
Technical SEO Is Your Engine
You could have the coordinates to the lost city of Atlantis on your site, but if it takes 10 seconds to load, it might as well not exist.
Nobody’s waiting around for that long.
Here’s another often overlooked factor: mobile friendliness
As of the latest data available, 64.04% of ALL INTERNET TRAFFIC comes from MOBILE PHONES.
Do you really want to handicap yourself and lose over HALF of your potential customers?
Not only that, but you will also get penalized by Google and rank lower as a result.
Seriously, make sure your website is mobile friendly. I’m watching you.
Backlinks Are Your Street Cred
Imagine two coffee shops.
One has tons of customers raving about it. The other? Crickets.
Which one would you trust?
That’s essentially what backlinks are. The more high-quality websites link to your content, the more Google sees you as an authority, and in turn ranks you higher.
But let’s be clear: Spammy backlinks won’t cut it.
Focus on building real relationships—guest posts, collaborations, and creating content so good that people WANT to link to it.
Don’t be ‘Most Businesses’
Most businesses ignore these SEO basics.
Most businesses get no traffic.
If you want to be a part of the 9% that actually get found, start implementing these steps today.
