Quick question: who’s your ideal customer?
A lot of business owners answer with something like:
‘Anyone with a pulse and the money to pay me’.
Two problems with that:
1. It doesn’t narrow things down a lot.
2. It only works if you have an unlimited marketing budget.
If we’re trying to reach everyone who fits that description, we’d better have a few hundred million euro lying around for our marketing campaign.
But if your marketing budget is not the size of a small country’s GDP…
Then this article is for you!
Why Carpet Bomb Marketing Doesn’t Work
We grew up surrounded by mass marketing—Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Apple. These companies are everywhere, so much so that it’s hard to picture a world without them.
Then we start our own company. And reality hits.
We don’t have the budget to flood the market like Coca-Cola. We can’t plaster our slogan or logo across every billboard, TV screen, and YouTube ad.
And guess what? Neither did they—at least, not when they started.
In fact, I’d bet good money that every big brand you know started by using the same mechanism.
They crafted an RSO—a Rock Solid Offer.
An offer that directly speaks to the right people—the ones who are perfect for their product or service.
Effective marketing comes down to one thing: getting your RSO in front of the right people.
Dynamite Marketing with Your RSO
I watched a documentary recently about something called ‘blast fishing’ or ‘dynamite fishing’.
Some fishermen (I think it was in Tanzania) figured out that fishing was waaayyyy easier if you just chucked a stick of dynamite into the water.
Boom!
Dynamite goes off...
Fish get killed or stunned by the blast...
Then you just scoop them up. No fishing lines, no bait, or any of that stuff.
That’s what an RSO does for your business.
Not only will your ideal clients be magnetically drawn to your message, but if your offer is truly solid, you’ll also attract the people who are considering it, playing with the idea, or on the fence.
This way you’ll scoop up ALL the fish.
